The Bedford Local Partnership
The Bedford project is now complete. In November 2012 the 8th and final family moved into their new home. Thank you to all involved to take this old farm and turn it into a neighborhood. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell (HFHGL) creatwd a neighborhood of eight energy efficient, affordable homes at 130 North Road in Bedford, Mass. One of the homes was the renovation of the historic farmhouse. The remaining seven units were new construction.
The Bedford project, the largest and most comprehensive HFHGL project to date, set the stage for many new initiatives and programs. HFHGL has implemented a new “green building” policy, which requires all HFHGL homes to now build to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ as well as to Energy Star standards. In addition to building greener, HFHGL provide several unique sponsorship and volunteer opportunities, including a Women Build, a Faith Build, and a Collegiate Build.
