Alicia, Olivia & William!

Alicia and her family will be moving into House #1! Alicia is a school nurse dedicated to children with disabilities. She is also is a single mom to a daughter named Olivia who loves the arts! Their rental unit is under new ownership which caused the rent to increased significantly over the past two years causing them to look for other options. Thankfully they found Habitat!

The family’s dear friend William, who is legally blind, also lives with them. With their new home in Concord, he will be steps away from the MBTA allowing him independence and the ability to travel to Boston for specialist appointments.

Lexi, Chris, and their five children will be moving into House #2! The Cherry family is a shining example of how perseverance pays off. Over the last few years, this family of seven has braved a pandemic together, welcomed new additions (two daughters and a son), and seen their two oldest daughters grow up into amazing “tweens”. Unfortunately, this has also meant they’ve outgrown their two-bedroom apartment.

While the space has served them well, it can no longer accommodate their growing family. Lexi and Chris envisioned hosting dinners, playdates, and sleepovers in an adequately sized home that they can afford and continue to grow in.

After falling short in Lowell Habitat’s Bedford home lottery, Lexi and Chris believed a habitat home just wasn’t in the cards for them. They told our program coordinator Nancy that they were unsure of applying again in the future, but after some convincing from Nancy, they applied again for the Concord homes.

Once that lottery concluded, the Cherry’s again found themselves not selected for a habitat home.

But wait? How did we get here? This isn’t the storybook ending we were expecting that got the Cherry family on this page!

Well, the Cherry family wasn’t selected for the Concord homes, they fell just short in the general pot and the local preference pot. Nancy told them not to lose hope, if any of the families selected ahead of them were to fall off, the Cherry’s could still get their long-awaited habitat home.

And as fate would have it, that’s exactly what happened. Despite it all, the Cherry family found themselves next up for house no.2 in Concord, and after some nervy discussions with the bank, they qualified for the home!

They had made it! After years of emails, prayers, tears, and blessings, the Cherry family is officially a habitat family!

We look forward to working with Lexi, Chris, and the kids towards their eventual move-in day!
