Ex-Burmese refugees helping to build their own house in Lowell with Habitat for Humanity

July 19, 2018: From raising their children in a refugee camp in Thailand to soon becoming homeowners in the Acre, it’s been a long road for Zaw Aung and Hel Pho. The couple fled Burma — now known as Myanmar — in the mid-1990s amid the long-running civil war resulting from a series of ethnic conflicts. They found themselves in Lowell six years ago thanks to a refugee resettlement program through the United Nations. Now, they’re working with Habitat For Humanity of Greater Lowell to build and buy their own home — half of a duplex — on Adams Street.  Read more:
