Habitat Lowell Breaks Ground in Concord, MAKevin Fusco
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell held a groundbreaking ceremony on November 30 for a new, two-bedroom house in Concord that will be home to a local, deserving family. The site is located at 367 Commonwealth Avenue in Concord, MA.
This will be Habitat Lowell’s second project in Concord within the past year, increasing affordable housing in an area where it’s especially hard to come by. According to Redfin, the average sale price of a home in Concord was $1.11M in October 2022, rising nearly 12% since October 2021.
This build is the product of a unique and innovative partnership between Habitat Lowell and the Concord Housing Authority. Once it’s complete, Habitat Lowell will sell the house to a qualifying homeowner at an affordable price with a zero-interest rate mortgage. The goal is to end poverty housing and give low-income families the chance to build stability and self-reliance.
“Our work to give families a hand-up is not possible without support from the communities we build in,” said Executive Director Kevin Fusco. “We are grateful to the Town of Concord, the Concord Housing Authority, and other businesses and organizations that have already stepped up to make this build a reality.”
Guests at Wednesday’s groundbreaking included officials from the Town of Concord and the Concord Housing Authority, representatives from the Merrimack Valley and Brookline Rotary Clubs, and Habitat volunteers. A group from Community Teamwork’s YouthBuild also attended. Students on the construction path of the program routinely work alongside Habitat Lowell staff and volunteers to learn building techniques and gain hands-on experience.
